Here are a few unwritten rules that will help any backcountry elk hunter or deer hunter get more out of their hunts on public land without disrupting hunts of other public land hunters.
I also touch on some tips that will help public land hunters when they are hunting areas with commercial wilderness outfitter activity.
I understand that some of you disagree with these so feel free to leave your perspective in the comments.

So in Michigan most small game hunting overlaps much of the bird and waterfowl hunting, and deer season.
So what I’m thinking and want opinions on, is getting a Ruger 10/22 takedown and swapping out a suppressed barrel, with subsonic rounds, for small game, and the Maverick 88 security, folding stock, for birds and deer when the seasons permit.
Both collapse to under 20 inches for transport, and combined weigh around 10lbs which isn’t crazy. And I can take a rabbit or squirrel without freaking out anything outside a couple hundred feet. So I’m curious what others think.
I HATE public land hunting!!! I HATE other hunters setting up right by me and saying (it’s public land so I can hunt where I want) People like that have no ethics and no respect for others!!! Then they wonder why they have flat tires when they get back to their truck!!! So for all of you who act that way, and you know who you are, GO BACK TO THE CITY!!!
Whenever im hunting on public land & i see a large outfitters group i spend the day walking around mag dumping until i run out of ammo, & i brings a lot of ammo
My experience with public land outfitters has been very bad. Now I will get right in their face at the start, in front of clients. And let them know, they have equal rights not superior just because they outfit here.
Most general rules exist for a reason, but we need to remember ethics are not black and white. They are standard built on moral principles and there can be exceptions sometimes. In many states, the person that kills the animal is legally obligated to tag the animal. If he/she doesn’t, they are subject to citation. If someone else who didn’t kill it tags it (even if they shot it first), they are subject to citation. Not usually a problem. Ethics and the law can confict. Sometimes we choose the ethics, but that is another ethical debate; picking and choosing which laws you are going to follow. A lot of people do that. They are criminals.
