I carried knifes all-day, every day for over a decade of guiding big game hunts in the wilderness. The knives I used changed over the years, and I developed preferences.
In this video I go over the pros and cons of many different individual models/shapes of knives and general categories (fixed blade vs replaceable blade knives).

I was given a Benchmade auto knife in Iraq. The blade is soft steel and doesn’t hold an edge. I contacted the company and told them about it and said unless I had a letter from my unit, which is next to impossible or law enforcement they wouldn’t do anything for me since it’s an auto knife. If this is how you treat a veteran, you can kiss my hairy @ss. I don’t recommend them at all.
I love my Buck 113 with my cross draw. But the deeper belly on my Lishen Sable is just perfection.
Thank you!
What is you’re preferred method of field sharpening?
To the part you said at the end about using knives that butchers use (boning, breaking knives) I’ve seen videos and articles where the person said “those knives are too flimsy for quarters big game”. Then I watch a bearded butcher video where they butcher a whole bison with those same knives. I think it makes sense to use the knives butchers use
